No electricity tariff hike for the rest of the year

THE Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (Petra) announced that there will be no increase in electricity tariffs for all users in Peninsular Malaysia from July 1 to Dec 31.

Petra stated the freeze in tariffs is in line with the government’s decision reached in a meeting yesterday (June 28).

Electricity tariffs for domestic users consuming between 600 kWh and 1,500 kWh will remain unchanged.

“Additionally, the reduction also involves local authority street lights, from RM3.70/kWh to RM2.70/kWh.

“Other non-domestic reductions are from 17 cents/kWh to 16 cents/kWh,” the statement read.

There will be a reduction for non-domestic users, specifically water and sewerage operators, from RM3.70/kWh to RM2.70/kWh, and for local authority street lights from RM3.70/kWh to RM2.70/kWh.

Other non-domestic rates will drop from 17 cents/kWh to 16 cents/kWh. The total targeted electricity subsidy for this period will be RM2.192 mil, funded by the government.

The government aims to protect domestic users and support investment in Malaysia through these measures. – June 29, 2024
