Nominations closed, here’s the who’s who contesting in GE15

WITH nominations now closed, campaigning for the 15th General Elections (GE15) officially begins; a hotly contested affair following years of political uncertainty and political drama, infighting and tensions reaching a boiling point.

A total of 222 federal seats are up for grabs, as well as 116 state seats in Pahang, Perlis and Perak – whose respective state rulers have given the nod to dissolve their state assemblies to hold concurrent state and federal polls on Nov 19 – and the Bugaya state seat in Sabah.

What makes this year’s polls especially interesting is the fighting expected between once partners in Government, Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN), which are now contesting against each other.

Voters will also be on the edge of their seats waiting to see if Pakatan Harapan (PH), which won the last polls but fell from power following the Sheraton Move of 2020, will wrest control of Putrajaya once more.

Besides that, this will be the first time 18-year-olds can vote, following the historic passing of the Undi18 bill last December, and all eyes will be on Malaysia’s youths to see how their votes will impact the GE15 outcome.

Here’s a list of some of the who’s who battling it out during the “mother of all elections” in two weeks:
