“PLEASE embrace Islam only after you’ve done proper study and have faith in the righteousness of the religion.”
Such is the appeal by political/social activist Thaqib Shaker who offered four reasons why he is against non-Muslims accepting Islam “just to facilitate their marriage with a Muslim spouse”.
“Firstly, when you’ve divorced or your wedding is on the rock, you would surely want to return to your original religion, hence this will be insulting to my religion,” justified the pro-DAP social media influencer in a TikTok video.
“This is because people will pass distasteful remark that you conveniently embrace Islam just for your marriage and not because you have received hidayah (divine guidance).”
Secondly, Thaqib reckoned that it is inappropriate for Islam in Malaysia to be treated as a form of business transaction “just to seal one’s wedding”.
“It’s fine if your partner is able to provide you with the proper guidance on Islam but if he/she is the liberal type who doesn’t even practise true Islamic teaching, this can eventually leave you in a lurch,” contended the media officer to Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid.
Thirdly, Thaqib cautioned non-Muslims that it would be difficult to murtad (literally apostate but here taken to mean return to one’s original religion) once they have embraced Islam.

“You have to go in and out of the court in addition to be accused as an ignorant Muslim while if you happen to pass away (when one is in the midst of reverting to one’s original religion), there is bound to be a squabble as to whether you should be buried as a Muslim or in accordance with the ritual of your original religion.”
Fourthly Thaqib expressed concerned that there would likely be custodian struggle if one were to have children – something that can lead to racial and religious issues “especially when evil politicians interfere till potentially jeopardise racial harmony with hatred towards Islam being inevitable”.
“Malays who listen to this will likely take offence and accused me of being a traitor or fasik (Arabic to mean someone who violates Islamic law),” asserted the former special officer to Machang MP and Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
“It’s fine for you to say whatever you want about me so long as I know that I’m doing the right thing to protect my religion while also preventing non-Muslims from being trapped in receiving ‘fake guidance’.
“In essence, I want people to embrace Islam after having thorough thoughts instead of being deceived by blind love.” – Sept 6, 2024
