“Nonsense”: PAS leader rubbishes Mat Sabu’s claims that PAS left Pakatan Rakyat to join UMNO

PAS information chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin has rubbished allegations made by Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu that the reason the Islamist party had split from Pakatan Rakyat (PR) was so they can establish political ties with UMNO.

Khairil Nizam said Mohamad’s allegations that PAS head Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang wants the party to split from PR was due to the hudud agenda and the concept of an Islamic state were obvious lies that stemmed from someone who tells lies frequently.

“The most obvious lie was when Mohamad cursed and insulted UMNO and its President Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, during the 15th General Election (GE15) campaigning period, but that was just an act because after the election, Amanah chose to be with UMNO without a shred of guilt,” Khairil Nizam, who is also the Jerantut MP, said on his Facebook page last night (Aug 30).

“Malaysians and PAS members still remember what Mohamad said in one of his speeches while he was still with PAS as a deputy president.

“Mohamad said ‘masa nanti abang mat dah keluar dari perjuangan ini, jangan ikut abang mat kerana mungkin masa itu abang mat dah tidak siuman’ (One day when I abandon the struggle, don’t do the same as I did because I might not be in the right mind by then).”

Khairil Nizam, a former Perikatan Nasional (PN) youth chief, stated that PAS had never abandoned the principles of their struggle, and that the party’s history of refusing to join DAP is due to these principles.

“Those who criticised PAS for seeking to join UMNO for power are now working together in the Federal Government, which is akin to lying to the people.”

On Saturday last week (Aug 26), Hadi claimed that a few members and former party leaders left PAS and established Amanah because they were afraid of losing the election.

Hadi also described those who left PAS to join Amanah as being “faint-hearted” for leaving the Islamist party’s struggle.

He claimed that it was DAP’s alleged refusal to accept hudud law that had motivated PAS to initiate attempts to change the government during Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) first stint in federal power after the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018.

Then on Monday (Aug 28), Mohamad, also known as Mat Sabu, revealed that the Islamist party had severed its ties with DAP in the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat (PR) platform not because the latter had rejected hudud but because PAS had wanted to form a “unity government” with UMNO.

“The real reason for the move was due to PAS’s plan to ally itself instead with UMNO in order to form a unity government,” Mohamad had said.

Mohamad, who is also the Kota raja MP, told the PAS leadership to stop spreading the narrative that the party stopped working with DAP before the 14th General Election (GE14) because the latter had opposed the idea of ‘Negara Islam’ (Islamic state) and the hudud agenda.

Mohamad also said PAS even agreed not to bring up the two issues for the sake of winning the elections. – Aug 31, 2023
