Noor Hisham says “prepare for the worst”, netizens reply “full lockdown”

IN a grim warning, Health Ministry (MOH) director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah urged the public to prepare for the worst as daily COVID-19 cases are skyrocketing.

“Our daily COVID-19 cases are following an exponential trend as shown by the graph below. The rise of cases started from 1 April 2021 & could trigger a vertical surge.

“We need to prepare for the worst. Pls help us to stay at home.  Only together we can break the chain of infection,” he said, in a tweet.

Noor Hisham added that the public should not neglect facts and data by giving excuses not to stay at home.

“If you have urgent matter to attend/work, please comply to all SOPs,” the health official stated.

However, social media users shot back at Noor Hisham on his Twitter feed, saying all his advises were easier said than done.

Inconsiderate employer, confusing SOP

“We totally understand that but without total lockdown…it’s futile. Else pls expedite the vaccination,” said user Norina Mohamad.

Her view was echoed by user Yasherayusry who stated: “Macam mana rantaian nak putus kalau tak buat total lockdown lagi lagi industri kilang antara faktor utama.”

(How to flatten the curve if there is no full lockdown, with the manufacturing sector contributing to the cases?)

Another user Woke Karen lamented on how her employer was forcing her to work from office (WFO), despite her duties can be done remotely.

“How to stay at home when my boss ask me to come to office to work. I work in a non-essential industry and I am actually able to wfh. I can’t quit my job as it’s not easy to find another job at this time. What a #$$% up world we live in. Corporations don’t care,” she said.

Commentator Illuminambing voiced frustration over the Government’s move to limit public transport capacity to 50% but reducing frequency at the same time, which would naturally cause overcrowding.

“Under some circumstances, we are unable to jaga jarak (socially distance). Reduced number of trains causing train stations to be super packed. This is the reality. It is not helping us at all. Although some of us are trying our best to jaga sop, this condition is making it harder to do so,” said user Illuminambing.

As of press time, Noor Hisham’s tweet had 784 retweets, with 794 likes – May 25, 2021.
