“Not another committee!”: Netizens pan the Special Jihad Taskforce Against Inflation

YESTERDAY (June 30), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the formation of a committee to wage “jihad” (holy war) on inflation.

Dubbed the “Pasukan Khas Jihad Tangani Inflasi” (Special Jihad Taskforce Against Inflation), the committee will be headed by Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa and he would be tasked to control the soaring prices of goods in the country.

Parked under the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, the committee would formulate strategies to resolve inflation-related issues by gathering information from relevant ministries and agencies.

However, not everyone was impressed by the Government’s penchant in forming a committee every time there was a crisis and panned the idea.

Leading the criticism was veteran economist Nungsari A Radhi who called it a “waste of time”.

(No need. The 32-member strong Cabinet hold weekly meeting and they can just entrench rising cost of living problem as their permanent agenda. Just close down the National Economic Action Council (NEAC), the National Recovery Council (NRC), The National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL) NACCOL and others)

Echoing Nungsari’s sentiments, user Joe Reacher added:

(Too many committees and meetings but the work does not get done)

Netizen Intan Farhana retorted:

 (Agreed. Too much redundancy).

Apart from Annuar, others in the team are Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

Rich men to curb inflation?

On that note, user Sage said that the Government was wasting valuable money by setting up more committees instead of using the existing structure and resources to deal with problems.

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh mentioned:

(There are many qualified women in our country but the Government chose to appoint wealthy men to deal with soaring cost of living) – June 30, 2022.
