AUTHORITIES did not raid the headquarters of Top Glove Corp Bhd on July 13, instead conducted an inspection of its office and workers’ quarters, the world’s largest glovemaker said in a statement today.
The Ministry of Human Resources yesterday issued a statement detailing a move by enforcers who found Top Glove breached the movement control order (MCO) as well as provided cramped quarters for foreign staff.
But the ministry cleared Top Glove of forced labour allegations.
The operation was conducted by task forces for the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and the recovery MCO.
Top Glove said the company received a compound of RM1,000 from the Health Ministry for lack of social distancing in one unit of the workers’ house.
“The non-compliance was immediately rectified and workers reminded to adhere closely to RMCO requirements. In a statement by the Ministry of Human Resources on this matter, it also confirmed that during their inspection they did not find any element of forced labour at Top Glove’s premises,” the company said.
Top Glove shares opened 0.24% lower at RM24.88 after the opening bell today. – July 22, 2020
