“Olive branch? Sure, but extend it to PN as well,” says PAS Youth chief

WHILE PAS Youth has expressed its willingness to accept the olive branch extended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the party, he said the process must involve the entire Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition rather than just one of its component parties.

“If the reconciliation (offer) is with PAS, then it certainly needs to be reconciled with PN as a whole. What are the terms and conditions? That can be discussed. What is important is that it is for the good of the people,” its chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said on a social media post yesterday (May 15).

The Pasir Mas MP’s comment came following reports that Anwar had expressed hopes of rekindling a relationship with PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang in a bid to rebuild the nation.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, PKR-linked preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin said Anwar’s wish was conveyed during the Prime Minister’s meeting with the two sons of former PAS spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat recently.

On the subject of reconciliation, Ahmad Fadhli went on to note that those offering peace have never been PAS’ enemies and it was merely a matter of “ideological differences”.

“If easing those differences is considered as making peace, then it’s good,” he remarked, adding that peace does not mean that there would be no opposition.

“Making peace doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone becomes part of the government. What is important is to fulfil the rights of those who are entitled to them instead of denying their rights and later calling for reconciliation.” – May 16, 2023
