THE power of social media is seemingly hard to resist as evident by the emergence of yet another video featuring the Indian annae (Tamil slang for older brother) from the infamous “One-by-One Gentlemen” viral video.
Leveraging his “fame”, the Indian annae has already appeared in a Pak Mat Western advert. The latest video clip shows him acting as a “brand ambassador” for a fish head curry restaurant, presumably in Bentong, Pahang.
For those who have just emerged from under a coconut shell, the said viral video captured a brawl between the inebriated annae and a Chinese shopkeeper. The clip taken inside a sundry shop in Seberang Perai has made both of them instant social media sensations.

Already viewed 582,400 times at the time of writing, many netizens applauded the annae’s new career path as a social media influencer.
A few netizens captured the prevailing sentiment of how social media has turned an ugly incident into an opportunity for change.
One cheekily suggested motorcycle helmet sellers should engage the annae’s services as a spokesman given that it was his “weapon” of choice in the original video.
One even predicted that it was a matter of time before the annae is marketing his own products for such is the level of his fame.
However, there were a few dissenting voices with some expressing incredulity that such a character is being used as a brand ambassador.
Apart from the few envious voices, the majority seemed to be happy with the way things have turned out for the annae with new-found fortune knocking at his door.
Far preferable than being viewed as a belligerent drunk, the annae has managed to turn things around with a few wishing him well with his future endeavours.
