Online debate ignites over fate of dogs in Kuala Ketil attack

WHO let the dogs out at Taman Desa Bidara, Kuala Ketil? Apparently it was a bad idea because five people had been injured recently, being bitten by two dogs which netizens identified as Rottweilers.

Unless your pet dog happens to be a chihuahua or a terrier, it is best not to let them out unsupervised.

People have since taken to the cyberspace to discuss the fate of the animals, besides hurling condemnation at the owner.

“Where is the dog loving club? Keeping quiet only? Justice for the victims,” said netizen @tonystarkxcw while @YangMulia_Abe suggested they shoot the dogs, stating that people should just keep cute animals that do not hurt humans.

Also, @sodatraa claimed that according to the law, the two animals had to be put to sleep as they had caused injury to people.

Then there was netizen @najlaasnordin who said it was a Malaysian problem, as Malaysians do not like to train their dogs.

@wltdflwr_ further pointed out the breed as the cause of the problem, being vicious as they were meant to be guard dogs. “They are very intelligent but hard to train,” she said.

@ibnuamran91 said the owner was foolish for allowing it to escape even though knowing it was a dangerous breed.

“But there are dog owners such as the one at the alley of my house who simply let loose their dogs at the front of their home. Then the dogs would chase the people who are walking even though they do not disturb the animal,” said @ibnuamran91.

According to news portal The Star, the The 69-year-old owner later confined the dogs, and was instructed to surrender them to the Kulim Veterinary Office for examination and immediate quarantine.

Baling district officer Yazlan Sunardie Che Yahya said the dogs reportedly escaped from their cages before the attack.

Yazlan added that he would speak to the owner to decide the fate of the dogs, on whether they should be placed in a shelter or put to sleep. —Apr 2, 2025
