Online petition opened to seek justice for stray dog Kopi, shot dead in Terengganu

THE Kuala Terengganu City Council has reportedly killed Kopi, a stray dog who gained viral attention for a video showing her playfully interacting with a stray kitten.

According to animal-lover social media page My Forever Doggo, a witness claimed that council members shot Kopi during a stray culling operation on Oct 6.

The local resident, who knew Kopi, heard gunshots and rushed out to find her bleeding and in pain. Sadly, she died shortly after. An online petition has since been launched, demanding accountability from the council and urging a reevaluation of its approach to managing strays.

The petition, initiated by Cristabel Leo on Change.org, denounces the act as “unwarranted brutality”, stating that Kopi, known as a “big sister” to stray cats and dogs in the area, deserved better treatment. Over 2,500 signatures have been gathered so far.

Kopi first went viral in March when TikTok user AbbyRaz shared a video of her playing with a kitten, amassing over 185,000 views. Following her death, AbbyRaz posted a tribute to Kopi, who was beloved by the local community. – Oct 12, 2024
