HEALTH director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah shared that, of the 31 new confirmed cases today, only one is a Malaysian who was infected locally, detected during screening at a tahfiz school in Ulu Klang.

Of the remaining 30 cases, 11 were import cases, with the patients returning from Egypt, and 19 non-Malaysians. The non-Malaysian cases were: 16 from the Pedas cluster, one from Kampung Sungai Lui, one from the cleaning company cluster, and one from a construction site in Kuala Lumpur.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Malaysia to 8,369, of whom 1,186 are active transmission cases. Of those, five are in intensive care, with no patients needing ventilator support.

51 recoveries were also reported today, bringing the total number of discharged patients to 7,065, almost 85% of the total confirmed cases in Malaysia. No further deaths were reported today, leaving the death toll at 118.

Dr Noor Hisham also warned Malaysians that the nation is facing two pandemics, the virus and the spreading of fake news about the virus which, he noted, “spreads among the community faster than the virus itself.”

He also shared that should Malaysia see zero new cases for 28 days straight, the country will be declared free of Covid-19. – June 11, 2020
