Uniting for the promotion of mental health; volunteerism at its finest

By Yeap Ming Liong

I HAVE always been a strong advocate for the Befrienders Malaysia and the services they offer ever since my days in the media industry. I always remember their tagline of ‘Sedia Bersahabat’.

I would like to praise the Befrienders and the good work they do such as providing emotional support to people who are lonely, in distress, in despair, and having suicidal thoughts and they do all these without charge.

I remember receiving an invitation once to be part of their support team.

However, I knew in my heart that God had other candidates. Hence, I would like to assist the Befrienders in my own humble way, and urge those who are willing to contribute time and effort to volunteer by joining their team.

If you are a good listener to other people’s problems in a caring, supportive and non-judgmental manner. Why not offer your services to a good cause by volunteering to be part of the Befrienders team? I am sure they will provide the right training for their volunteers.

Please be reminded that the Befrienders also has operational expenses such as admin staff salaries, electricity and water bills to pay. I would like to humbly urge those who are willing to donate to do so also from the bottom of your heart.

I am sure your contribution goes a long way to help the Befrienders and their cause.

Let us all come together and unite for the promotion of mental health especially in these trying times. – April 7, 2021
