Our monarchs: A shining example of Malaysian unity, grace

By Yeap Ming Liong

I DO not know the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia personally, but I do follow the Istana Negara’s official social media account. I must say that the King and Queen lead the way forward in promoting and upholding the spirit of unity.

Whenever a major festivity takes place, they convey their greetings to all their Malaysian subjects be it Good Friday, Chap Goh Mei, Deepavali or Hari Raya. It truly warms hearts when their majesties express their well wishes. It shows not only their concern but also their equal care and treatment for all Malaysians.

Promoting and practising unity should be a Malaysian way of life. Their majesties have made this very clear in their greetings. It speaks volume of how we should respect and honour all festivities celebrated in our multiracial society.

I personally feel the warmth of both their majesties greetings although it is just a still photo. It adds colour and strengthens my sense of not only unity, but also pride for my beloved country.

We are still facing an uphill battle with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, some of us have not seen families and friends for a long time, but it is messages like this from the King and Queen where one can draw strength and hope.

I would like to call upon everyone to remember and uphold the national principles. It serves as a guiding light in nation building and national unity.

Let us take Malaysia to greater heights starting today. – April 6, 2021
