Over 500k people now employed? Prove it with statistics, DAP MP prods PM

DAP MP Lim Lip Eng urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to provide details on how many of the 705,000 unemployed have found jobs based on the latter’s announcement.

“I’m prepared to give Ismail Sabri a high score if his claims are not false. However, I believe the figure is pulled out of thin air, with no Government agency showing any evidence to support the numbers,” he said, in a statement.

During the “100-Day Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia” held recently, the premier claimed that the Government exceeded its target of getting 500,000 people jobs within 100 days of taking over the administration.

However, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the unemployment rate is currently at 4.3%, or about 705,000 as in October.

On that note, Lim urged Ismail Sabri not to blow his own trumpet too soon as the latter needed to prove his claims using real data.

He also questioned whether the bold announcement made was an attempt to hoodwink Sarawakian voters as the state polls are due on Dec 18.

“If Malaysia can achieve such a miraculous turnaround in unemployment in such short time, then Ismail Sabri’s Government should form a consultancy to teach the US and the rest of the world on how to reduce the high unemployment rates.” Lim concluded. – Dec 12, 2021.
