AS if a Bollywood movie unfolding, DAP vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming has applauded Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s welcome reception for his Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Rashtrapati Bhavan presidential palace as “my favourite photo of the day”.

“Strong friendship and bilateral relations between Malaysia and India. 🇲🇾♥️,” penned Nga who is also the Housing and Local Government Minister on the X platform of Anwar’s three-day official visit to India which is deemed his first since taking office in November 2022.

“PMX @anwaribrahim’s diplomacy is simply amazing.,” added the Teluk Intan MP.

While a commenter hailed a good relation with India as beneficial to the Malaysian economy given “India is our biggest importer of palm oil”, another reckoned that “it’s about time PMX responds to the extradition of India’s most wanted fugitive” (referring to controversial Muslim preacher Zakir Naik).

Subhanallah!!! Glory be to Allah). Friendship between Malaysia and India has formed. May this spell goodness for the ummah and the world,” tweeted pro-Madani social media influencer Adam Yusuf (@adamyusuf88).

One commenter likened Anwar and Modi to “two close schoolmates who have long been separated till both have to hug each other and have to walk holding each other’s hands”.

Another drew similarity to greeting one’s returning children at the airport. “The intimacy is so touching to watch especially with that natural body language,” described the netizen.

Staunch Pakatan Harapan (PH) keyboard warrior YB𝕏 (@ybperpaduan) was impressed with Modi’s gesture in greeting Anwar till making the latter very much like “Hindustan hero Sivaji”.

ReeN 🇵🇸 (@ReeNGaston) praised Anwar for his communication skills which “enables him to effectively exude his self-authority to reflect his competence and character in running his affairs”. “Not all national leaders have good communication skills,” she observed.

Finally, fellow pro-PH backer MYpolitiko #FreePalestine🇵🇸 (@mypolitiko) felt the uniqueness of the hug that Modi gave his Malaysian counterpart.

“The Asian tiger is roaring again on the world stage. Proud to be Malaysian 🇲🇾,” he tweeted as one netizen clarified that it is customary in the Indian tradition for men to hold hands given such is an accepted way to express friendship and camaraderie. – Aug 21, 2024
