Parliament: Political Funding Bill to be presented to the Cabinet “soon”

THE Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption (JKKMAR) had approved the preliminary papers on the Political Funding Bill presented to them on May 19.

“As such, we have agreed that the Bill to be presented to the Cabinet soon, in line with the present policies of the Government,” said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Parliamentary Affair) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, in a written reply to Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin.

The minister said that a detailed study will be conducted on the proposed Bill so that it would meet the initiatives outlined under the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP).

The study, he added, would include stakeholders’ participation to ensure proper implementation later on.

“This Bill is very important as we don’t have laws to govern political funding for now. This will curb graft and prevent abuse of power by politicians,” Wan Junaidi remarked. – July 24, 2022
