PAS and factionalism are two major pains for Bersatu

DATUK Seri R Sanjeevan, a candidate for Bersatu Associate Wing vice chief, acknowledged that non-Malay voters are hesitant to support PN due to their concerns about PAS.

Speaking on the Sana Sini podcast, Sanjeevan admitted that PAS is the main reason non-Malays hesitate to back the federal opposition coalition.

“The reality is when we go to the ground and talk to the people, I mean non-Malays, when you bring up PN the only reason they give for not supporting is PAS.

“That’s the reality. You got to be honest to accept the truth,” he said.

He pointed out that non-Malays had previously supported PAS when it was part of Pakatan Rakyat.

Sanjeevan also addressed speculation about tense relations between Bersatu and PAS, dismissing it as “propaganda” while emphasising the importance of acknowledging the reality on the ground.

Nevertheless, for Bersatu Youth chief candidate Muhammad Hilman Idham, known as an ally of Azmin Ali, factionalism is one of the pains the party is facing.

Speaking at an event in Petaling Jaya, he said, “Factions are a cancer that will not aid in unifying the party.”

“As I have stated, we believe that factions and factionalism are a cancer that will not aid in the effort to unify the party,” he said.

Hilman, who is running for Youth chief against Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir, urged the party to focus on inclusivity and progressive values.

He also noted that Azmin is not contesting, refuting claims that he represents Azmin’s team in the elections. – Oct 6, 2024
