PAS has called upon Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to elucidate the specifics behind his recent statement referencing “RM500 mil and RM750 mil,” allegedly related to enticements for government MPs to defect.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari expressed skepticism and urged Anwar not to repeat a situation akin to the previous accusation regarding gambling funds against Perikatan Nasional (PN). Fadhli emphasised the need for Anwar to reveal any specific information associated with the mentioned monetary figures.
“Why are RM500 mil and RM750 mil written in the statement? It means there is specific information. If there is specific information, please PMX (Anwar) just reveal it. Don’t let it be like the gambling fund issue that was smeared onto PN. After a year, it still hasn’t been proven,” said the Pasir Mas MP.
This challenge comes in response to Anwar’s recent statement following his audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at Istana Negara.
Anwar conveyed that the King’s decree was for the coalition government to continue governing the country while also making a cryptic suggestion about directing significant donations to the poor and needy.
“His Majesty ordered me and the Madani government to continue the work of managing the country. I also suggest that if anyone wants to donate RM500 mil or RM750 mil, it should be channelled directly to the poor and needy in the country.”
Without elaborating on the donations, Anwar’s statement has sparked speculation that it may be linked to claims of substantial sums being used to entice government MPs to switch allegiances.
Moreover, Fadhli criticised Anwar’s swift release of the statement, accusing him of disrespecting the King and the official proceedings at Istana Negara.
“Rushing to get ahead of the Istana Negara. What’s the rush? This action is like disrespecting the primary position of the King and the Istana Negara in issuing an official statement,” remarked Fadhli, suggesting a tone of skepticism towards Anwar’s haste in sharing information.
