AMANAH president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said it would be unsurprising if PAS had formed a political alliance with DAP in the near future.
After all, the Islamic party was now “friends” with its former political nemesis Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad which saw PAS leaders recently signing the “Malay Proclamation” to signify support for the former prime minister’s call for the Malays to unite and “save” their race, he added.
As such, PAS has no right to criticise any political alliances as it also has a past history of forming political alliances with other parties for the sake of strengthening its position.
“It is not impossible that the PAS president will announce that ‘DAP is our friend’ in the next two to three years,” he told the audience at the Ceramah Jelajah Madani Kedah 2023 in Kubur Panjang, Pendang on Monday (May 9) night.
Mohamad, who is popularly known as Mat Sabu, further criticised PAS for its inconsistency, which is evident after the Islamic party’s decision to join forces with former political foe Dr Mahathir, thus changing their political stance and exposing their hypocrisy.
“We are now seeing how PAS has allied itself with Dr Mahathir for the sake of the ‘Malay Proclamation’, an ideology that PAS had rejected previously,” he remarked.
“What has happened to their earlier stance? It is clear that [PAS] is always ready to change its stance on political alliances depending on the situation.”
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had recently signed Dr Mahathir’s “Malay Proclamation”, which saw him and several other party top brass signing the document signifying their support for the former prime minister’s call for the Malays to unite and “save” the race.
Mohamad went on to warn that PAS’ attempt to instil fear and religious extremism among Muslims in the country has the potential to lead to the country’s downfall.
“Due to their attempt to instil such fear, there are people who have gone on to develop such extremist thoughts, the same one which had destroyed many countries like Sudan, Syria and Iraq in the past,” he added. – May 9, 2023
