WHETHER out of envious or just a tactical distraction, PAS is adamant that the “Madani Malaysia Open House with Prime Minister” event is a clear sign of 10th Prime Minister (PMX) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s desperation to deal with the wave of people’s rejection of the unity government.
Instead of staging the event nationwide in every state, the Islamist party lambasted Anwar for having targeted only the six states which would be facing the state polls in July/August this year (Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu).
“Where is PMX’s dignity as PM for the people of all states in Malaysia? Why only choose six states that are going to face elections as a platform to gain the support of the people?” HarakahDaily cited Zurk Ahmad who is the director-general of the National PAS’ information department as saying.
“Does PMX seriously want to be the PM for all Malaysians or is he impatient to lose his position by just wanting to lead the PH-BN (Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional) offensive by focusing on the state polls?”
In this regard, Zurk said PAS fully supported the statement of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor which described the open house event as a “state election campaign programme and is inappropriate to be held”.
“As with the nature of PMX’s Madani government, the programme is contrary to their words which is to implement a policy of saving in terms of government expenditure,” chided Zurk. “Which is more economical: one or six? Where is the formula expert? Are you being embarrassed to play a number game?”
In PAS’ reckoning, Anwar should have learnt from the party whose very survival hinges on independent premises and self-funding by its members.

“As a party with dignity and integrity, PAS as in previous years will organise its 1444H Aidilfitri Open House at its Kedah PAS Complex for the purpose of appreciating all PAS supporters and loyalists,” Zurk pointed out.
“The same applies for all of PAS’ open houses at both state and regional levels. All of them are 100% relying solely on the party’s own funding.”
In closing, Zurk advised Anwar to repent by not leveraging government machinery for “his narrow political interests”.
“Don’t continue this disgusting and backward political culture. We believe the people will always observe and evaluate PMX’s attitude which is seen to have lost its principles and has betrayed his reformist struggle over the years,” he observed.
“Our message to the people out there is let’s make changes especially during the next state election. We shall adequately teach PH-BN a lesson for ruining our country today.” – April 26, 2023
