TUMPAT MP Datuk Mumtaz Md Nawi was reprimanded by the Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Md Nor for using a piece of false information from Facebook.
In a video circulating on X, the PAS representative claimed rising living costs and increasing steel prices (up to RM4,000) were causing higher rental prices.
Batu Pahat MP Onn Abu Bakar refuted this, clarifying that rumours of government-increased steel prices were false and occurred in 2021 under Perikatan Nasional.
Mumtaz, when asked for her source, cited Facebook. She retracted her claims after being asked by the Deputy Speaker, who warned against using false social media information in Parliament.
The PAS MP tried to justify the use of the Facebook post by arguing that “if there is an increase, the government needs to control it”.
