PAS says Muafakat is the best formula, but UMNO begs to differ

THE unity of the ummah through Muafakat Nasional, initiated by PAS and UMNO, is considered the best formula, said PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

He said this was because the unity of the ummah is not only limited to certain parties but could also include any political party, NGO or individual who has the common goal to unite the ummah as stipulated in the (Muafakat) charter.

“As such, PAS is still urging for unity among all parties, especially the Malay-Muslim, Bumiputera and non-Malay parties that are not extreme, as mentioned by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang,” he said, after visiting former Kelantan FA coach and professional footballer Hashim Mustapha at his home in Kampung Guchil Bayam, Kota Bahru.

Elaborating on this, Takiyuddin, who is also the Energy and Natural Resources minister and Kota Bharu MP, said the unity of the ummah is vital for the country to improve and for the people to live in harmony in the future.

“We need to unite and there must be power-sharing among the people of various ethnic groups, races, and religions in our country,” he said.

Meanwhile, commenting on the emergence of the new political entity Angkatan Amanah Merdeka Rakyat Kelantan, Takiyuddin said this was nothing new in politics and PAS was undeterred by its presence.

“What is important is that PAS has a clear direction and nothing will disrupt our preparations for the 15th general election (GE15),” he said.

The media had earlier reported a new state-based political alliance, Angkatan Amanah Merdeka Rakyat Kelantan has been established with the aim to oust the PAS-led Kelantan government.

It is led by UMNO veteran and Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and backed by Kelantan Parti Amanah Negara, a splinter party of PAS.

Speak for yourself, Takiyuddin

However, UMNO supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek mocked Takiyuddin’s assertions, saying the nationalist party had found a “workable formula” on its own.

“When PAS was with BN to take one Pakatan Harapan after the 14th general election, BN won many by-elections and we are thankful for that.

“But when PAS cooperated with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to take on BN in the Melaka and Johor state election, we won with a bigger majority and we are thankful for that that.

“By God’s grace, we found the best formula,” the former minister mentioned. – May 7, 2022
