PAS Selangor denies ‘extremism’ accusations

PAS Selangor has denied that the party has ever promoted or brought a culture of extremism, instead claiming to respect all cultures, beliefs, and traditions of other races.

This statement comes a day after an Amanah MP sent a memorandum to the Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, calling for an investigation into PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang on allegations of religious extremism.

Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yunus Hairi said that Selangor PAS has never promoted or brought an extreme culture that is against religion but instead wants to eradicate any form of narrow racial politics that harms the people and the state.

Yunus claimed that PAS has a good track record of governance in Selangor from 2008 to 2018, claiming that PAS exco members, state representatives, local council members, village heads, and appointed officials have all served every level of society in Selangor cleanly and brilliantly.

He also highlighted that there has not been a single Selangor PAS representative charged in court on charges of corruption or other criminal offences throughout PAS’s tenure in government.

Yunus insisted that PAS will ensure that its members remain unwaveringly loyal to the Sultan Sharafuddin, maintain peace in the state, and respect the culture, customs, and religion of other races while obeying the laws and regulations of the country and state in every activity.

He added that ahead of the Selangor state general election, PAS and its partners in Selangor will uphold the practise and process of democracy and will continue to work to convince the people of this state to bring about changes for the good of the state.

However, critics claimed that the PAS peddled a racial narrative and divided the people’s unity during the 15th general election last year, with Hadi as the main instigator.

Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan, who submitted the memorandum to Sultan Sharafuddin yesterday (Jan 27), said Hadi had spread hateful sentiments against other cultures in Malaysia and this must be stopped.

Sany has called on the relevant authorities to take immediate action against Hadi before it’s too late. — Jan 28, 2023
