THE Sungai Bakap by-election has marked a significant milestone as for the first time Indian leaders from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition have come together cohesively.
This collaboration underlines a broader trend within Malaysian politics where different ethnic groups in the PN coalition are coming together to achieve common goals.
There is a pressing need to initiate an awareness campaign to clear misconceptions about PAS – in particular, to educate the public about the true nature and intentions of PAS to foster better understanding while reducing prejudice.
The current political scenario indicates that Pakatan Harapan (PH) is losing relevance. It is crucial for the Indian community to adapt and learn to co-exist comfortably with the country’s Muslim majority.

This adaptation involves consulting within the community to empower Indian social development and ensure their concerns are addressed.
It is essential for the community to not get swayed by minor issues and lose sight of the bigger picture. There should be a concerted effort to focus on long-term goals and strategies that benefit the community as a whole.
The time has come for individuals to probe the truth independently. Encouraging self-research and critical thinking will lead to a more informed and empowered populace.
With the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16), significant political changes are expected. It is vital to consult and collaborate with Muslim leaders to create a fair, inclusive and united society.
This partnership aims to ensure that all communities feel represented and their interests are safeguarded.
The Sungai Bakap by-election has set a new precedent for Indian leaders within the PN coalition by emphasising the importance of unity and collaboration across ethnic lines.
By focusing on awareness, adaptation and long-term goals, the Indian community can better position itself within Malaysia’s evolving political landscape. – July 9, 2024
