PAS has extended its congratulations to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for being appointed as the country’s 10th prime minister.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said that the party is confident that Anwar will fulfil his responsibilities well and fairly, adding that the party also expects the newly-minted prime minister to prioritise the federalism concept which is appropriate for all territories.
“PAS is thankful that the political impasse following the 15th general election (GE15) has been resolved amicably,” Takiyuddin said in a statement today (Nov 25).
Takiyuddin further claimed that Anwar has made an offer for Perikatan Nasional to join the unity government.
“PAS expresses our gratitude [to Anwar for the offer] and we will discuss the matter with our Perikatan Nasional (PN) component partners and seek feedback from the people, especially voters who have supported PAS and PN during the general election,” he noted.
This comes a day after Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s press conference yesterday evening in which he announced that he is not accepting Anwar’s appointment as prime minister.
At the press conference Muhyiddin had insisted that he had statutory declarations (SDs) from 115 MPs on his side – enough to become prime minister.
He also challenged Anwar to prove that he has a majority by showing how many SDs he has with him, adding that for the sake of the people’s confidence in his legitimacy as prime minister, it is appropriate for Anwar to prove that he has the support of the majority of Dewan Rakyat members.
In response, Anwar had, in his first press conference as prime minister last night, announced that when Parliament reconvenes on Dec 19, the first move would be a vote of confidence for his leadership. – Nov 25, 2022
