PBM: “We respect outcome of Johor election, will conduct post-mortem”

PARTI Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) said that it respects and accepts the outcome of last Saturday’s Johor state election and congratulates the winners as well as the participants who had helped to make democracy more vibrant.

“While PBM did not win any seats in the poll, our electoral debut was truly an eye-opening experience as we learned so much about our strengths and weaknesses,” said party president Larry Sng.

“Towards this end, PBM will immediately conduct an in-depth post-mortem. The findings will be crucial for us to prepare for the upcoming general election, which is speculated to be held this year.”

Sng also thanked all who helped the party during the Johor state election and said that the electoral setback will not deter them from championing PBM’s six core pillars of multiracial engagement, women’s empowerment, youth empowerment, economic development, education and the advancement of science and technology.

“On the contrary, it will only drive us to work harder and smarter in preparing for future challenges,” he added.

PBM which made its electoral debut in the Johor state polls fielded Tebrau Member of Parliament Steven Choong Shiau Yoon in Puteri Wangsa and Mohd Azmi Ali, 51, in Tiram as well as young candidates Muhammad Hanis Asmui Md Salleh, 28, (Maharani) and Muhammad Saiful Bahari Sahari, 33, (Stulang).

Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh confirmed on Saturday night that Barisan Nasional (BN) had won 40 seats out of the 56 state seats in Johor.

The comfortable victory allowed BN to form a government with a two-third majority.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) had to accept victory in 11 state seats, followed by PN (three) and PKR and Muda each won one seat. – March 16, 2022
