PBM’s Haniza has big plan to turn Hulu Selangor into tourist haven

IN terms of economic prosperity, Hulu Selangor currently ranks second lowest in Selangor but that can become ‘a distant past’ if Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s (PBM) Hulu Selangor’s MP aspirant Haniza Mohamed Talha gets elected in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The incumbent Lembah Jaya assemblywoman who is now PBM’s deputy president said the dismal ranking does not do justice for Hulu Selangor which has immense economic potential, especially in the realm of tourism.

“If elected as MP for Hulu Selangor, I pledge to turn the constituency into a top tourist destination – not just in Selangor – but the country,” enthused the former Selangor state executive councillor.

“Hulu Selangor has some of the most scenic spots in the country, including waterfalls, hiking trails and Orang Asli villages.”

Haniza will be engaged in a six-corner fight for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat against Dr N. Sathia Prakash (Pakatan Harapan/PH), Datuk T. Mohan (Barisan Nasional/BN), Mohd Hasnizan Harun (Perikatan Nasional/PN), Harumaini Omar (Pejuang) and Azlinda Baroni (Independent).

Haniza further contended that many tourists are now seeking unspoiled, low-density natural attractions post-pandemic which can be found in abundance in Hulu Selangor “without affecting the well-being of locals”.

She also identified Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB) as a potential star attraction given it is the first planned town in the country and having many historical and heritage sites in its vicinity.

“Due to Hulu Selangor’s proximity to the Klang Valley, the first step is to target city folks to come to the constituency for some R&R (rest & recreational activity), especially during the weekends,” suggested Haniza.

“Based on initial feedback, many residents in the Klang Valley are keen to make more frequent trips to Hulu Selangor to recharge. Eventually, we plan to reach out to international tourists as well.”

But in order to achieve this, Hulu Selangor needs sizable investments to upgrade its tourism-related infrastructure as well as for promotions.

“With regard to this, I will work closely with the related agencies like MOTAC (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture), Tourism Selangor, local authorities as well as private sectors like Think City to secure the funding if I am elected MP there,” she noted.

“A boom in tourism activities there will definitely bring spill-over economic effects to the local community. This can be in the form of increased revenue in sectors like F&B (food & beverage), transportation and homestay.” – Nov 17, 2022
