PARTI Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) Hulu Selangor candidate Haniza Mohamed Talha is all-out to make it count that action speaks lauder than words.
Leveraging her experience as the Selangor executive councilor in charge of housing between 2018 and 2020, she has promised residents of Pangsapuri Seri Cempaka in Serendah to overcome their safety fears after cracks appeared on the building structure. Worst still, the said building also appears to be sinking.
“It is regrettable that this problem has not been resolved although residents have voiced their fears and concerns since last year (to the relevant authorities),” Hanzia who is also PBM’s deputy president highlighted in a statement.
“Nobody should be living in fear of their building collapsing on them or more cracks appearing in their homes. As I’m quite familiar with housing issues. I promise to give this problem top priority.”
Hanzia will be engaged in a six-corner fight for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat against Dr N. Sathia Prakash (Pakatan Harapan/PH), Datuk T. Mohan (Barisan Nasional/BN), Mohd Hasnizan Harun (Perikatan Nasional/PN), Harumaini Omar (Pejuang) and Azlinda Baroni (Independent).
In the 2018 national poll, Leow Hsiad Hui of Keadilan (PH) won the seat with a majority of 13,391 votes. The constituency has 154,317 registered voters for GE15.
According to Haniza, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and the residents themselves have been in touch with the relevant authorities over the months, including the Mineral and Geoscience Department, the Housing and Local Government Ministry and the Hulu Selangor district office.
“I am also made to understand that following a preliminary study, the Mineral and Geoscience Department has suggested that sub-surface investigations be conducted to establish the stability of the surrounding areas; damaged drains be expeditiously repaired; review the drainage in the locality and conduct mitigation efforts to reduce water overrun at the surrounding slopes,” she pointed out.
“In the meantime, I will continue to engage with the residents there to explore ways to mitigate this problem. I will also reach out to the other stakeholders such as the relevant agencies to quickly find a solution to this problem.”
Haniza added: “I am not sure what the previous MP has done to resolve this issue although I am made to understand that this problem has been brought to his attention for some time now. As a lawmaker, we should not take lightly the welfare and safety of our voters.” – Nov 8, 2022
