Penang vendor goes viral with cartoon-inspired pancakes; netizens wowed by her artistic talent

SOMETIMES, one just needs a break from all the toxic reports flooding our news feeds.

Be it politicians spouting racist tirades or some Singaporean motorist behaving badly on our roads, sometimes a break is just what is needed.

What better antidote than a food related video highlighting a vendor’s artistic skills! Featured on popular Facebook food site, Penang Foodie, the clip shows a pancake maker creating delightful crepes that resemble popular cartoon characters.

Using vanilla-flavoured pancake base, the vendor of Nadheena Pancake Kartun in Lebuh Kampung Bukit, Penang, creates multi-coloured snacks that resemble characters from Mario Bros., Ne Zha and Pokémon.

With prices starting from RM10, it is a cheap and effective way to delight young children and keep them entertained.

The pancakes are served with either a chocolate or honey dip for that extra mouthful of oomph.

The artist, Siti Nadia Nasir, who charges just RM15 for a customised effort has received plenty of praise for her artistic endeavours.

The post has already received 64K likes and generated 1.9k comments along with almost 4M views and 7.8K shares, illustrating the lady’s efforts have gone down well with many netizens.

One netizen who claims to know the vendor also pointed out that she offers henna designs as well.

Many were simply in awe with the manner in which the vendor effortlessly recreated the characters, freehand without any drawing aids.

Another commenter pointed out how quickly the vendor was able to complete the work of art without a pre-marked pan, noting that pancake batter burns easily.

This is truly “culinary art”, exclaimed one netizen. It was also proof that food need not be boring and can be colourful and fun.

Some obviously neat freaks also observed her cook station was clean and tidy!

One netizen counselled stingy customers to NOT complain about the price as it was not a normal pancake. They were also paying for the vendor’s artistic talents, time and effort.

Another commenter pointed out that the prices were already very cheap, adding she feels it is a waste to eat such wonderful works of art.

One netizen highlighted that this was human-generated and not like other deepfakes created by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Hence, this is most certainly deserving of support, insinuated one netizen.

Sometimes we just need to take a chill pill and not get wound up over the slew of negative topics flooding our new feeds.

What better way than enjoying an artisanal pancake created by a truly talented vendor?
