Perikatan Nasional: “Malays, Muslims are hurt by racism of the DAP-kind”

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has taken offence at “the rudeness and impudence” of DAP Perak chairman Nga Kor Ming which the coalition described as “has once again made a statement without logic and even clearly seen as racially mixed and could lead to an incitement”.

Nga’s chain of views, attacks and even criticism of PN are just theories and personal views which deviate from the truth, according to the coalition’s Federal Territory information chief Mahathir Mohd Rais.

“His accusation that voting for PN will cause the country to be governed like the Taliban government in Afghanistan is a very serious and extreme accusation,” Mahathir pointed out in a statement.

“It is not wrong that an issue that is voiced openly is to get an explanation but are we sure that every word used in sketching a question is not influenced by emotions or a hidden agenda all together?”

Nga sounded his Taliban warning again in a recent Mandarin statement that Malaysia risks becoming like “Afghanistan” if the PN coalition which constitutes PAS as a component party is allowed to win the forthcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

Recall that in March 2019, the DAP vice-chairman declined to apologise for saying that Malaysia would turn into a “Taliban state” if an UMNO-PAS alliance were to come into power.

This follows a threat by the Selangor PAS Youth to organise a mega rally if Nga and fellow DAP leaders Lim Guan Eng and Chew Chong Sin did not issue apologies for their purportedly insensitive statements.

Mahathir went on to claim that Nga’s statement has “clearly hurt the feelings of the Malays and Muslims for it depicts that an Islamic administration will be based on barbaric law” which will oppress the people “if such is the understanding that he (Nga) wants to highlight regarding this issue”.

“Here it can be seen how dangerous it is when a leader speaks without logical arguments,” opined the Segambut Bersatu division chief.

“Because every leader has its roots, and every statement made by the leader is capable of gaining blind support regardless of the validity factor or the truth in the information conveyed.”

According to Mahathir, many quarters overlook the fact that while Malaysia practises constitutional democracy with every citizen having the right to voice their opinions and views, that does not mean that every view or opinion should “be embroidered with racism”.

“In voicing your opinion, especially those of you who hold a position in politics, you should be more sensitive to the logic of the mind and not based solely on the heart and tongue,” he cautioned.

“Nga should be careful with his mouth and should not stuff information into the ears of the people with blind emotions.” – Nov 15, 2022
