Petchem, Tenaga fuel Bursa at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia resumed the afternoon session higher, lifted by buying support in the index-linked counters, led by Petronas Chemicals and Tenaga, amid positive regional sentiments.

At 3 pm, key index FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 23 points or 1.67% to 1,394.66 from 1,371.66 at Tuesday’s close.

Petronas Chemicals advanced 28 sen to RM5.45 with 3.17 million shares changing hands while Tenaga earned 36 sen to RM12.50 after 3.09 shares transacted. Both stocks contributed a combined 7.809 points to the rise in the composite index.

The overall market breadth remained bullish with advancers trouncing losers 635 to 230, while 314 counters were unchanged, 725 untraded and 19 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 3.76 billion shares worth RM1.63 mil.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank chalked up nine sen to RM7.67, Public Bank gained six sen to RM15.90, IHH Healthcare bagged 11 sen to RM5.20, Maxis increased seven sen to RM5.31 and CIMB added four sen to RM3.61.

Among the actives, Mtouche perked two sen to nine sen, Minetech inched up half-a-sen to 25.5 sen, but Vortex slipped half-a-sen to 8.5 sen. Sanichi, MCT and SGB were flat at 4.5 sen, 18.5 sen and 2.5 sen respectively.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index was 175.9 points stronger at 9,664.86, the FBM ACE appreciated 103.45 points to 4,375.58, the FBM Emas Shariah Index chalked up 230.93 points to 10,701.1, the FBMT 100 Index increased 173.75 points to 9,557.42 and the FBM 70 climbed 274.17 points to 11,393.67.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 2.93 points to 115.83, the Financial Services Index increased 123.39 points to 12,489.18 and the Plantation Index improved 50.05 points to 6,296.76. – April 15, 2020, Bernama
