“PH must give ultimatum to Syed Saddiq, Muda,” says PKR Youth leader

PAKATAN Harapan (PH) must give an ultimatum to Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Muda for their recent actions that have allegedly gone against the spirit of the unity government, said PKR Youth wing Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) deputy information chief Nabil Halimi.

Speaking to Utusan Malaysia, Nabil said PH needs to be firmer in their stance while Muda should be more of a gentleman while being prudent and sensible and withdraw from the unity government.

He said different views aside, Muda does not show basic political discipline within the organisation.

“Muda’s decision to contest on its own in the upcoming Selangor state polls, for example, already goes against the spirit of camaraderie,” Nabil pointed out when contacted by the Malay daily yesterday (July 25).

“Muda going on the offensive isn’t appropriate at a time where we had to face an opposition who harps on the 3R issues of race, religion and royalty.

“Muda, as a member of the unity government, should be offering solutions instead of attacking the government and how is the leadership of the coalition going to believe that Muda is truly sincere in their struggles?”

On June 26, Muda announced that it would be contesting solo in all six states in the forthcoming state elections.

Syed Saddiq explained in a press conference on the same day that the party will no longer be cowed by fear-mongering that going solo would only result in “splitting votes”.

On July 15, the party announced that it will be collaborating with Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) with the two parties agreeing not to clash with each other in seats they are contesting.

Commenting further on the matter, Nabil opined that Muda’s inclination to contest more seats in the Selangor state polls also indirectly mean the party is more inclined with the opposition’s brand of politics.

“Why are they even clashing seats with PH in Selangor and not do the same in Kedah? Does this mean that Muda agrees with caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s leadership and political stance? Is Muda a proxy for Perikatan Nasional (PN)?” he questioned.

“Therefore, PH has to be firm and Muda needs to be more of a gentleman and break away from the unity government. It is quite clear why they are choosing to ‘attack’ Selangor despite the fact that Selangor has many committed young candidates in the region.”

According to Nabil, Muda should have chosen a softer approach in their effort to play a check-and-balance role in the government rather than openly attacking their allies.

“If the interest of the people is put above all things else – and we know that the rakyat is yearning for political stability – unity must be reflected in each and every move that they make,” he asserted.

“At the same time, if it’s true that Muda wants usher in ‘new politics’ and position itself as a ‘third force’ then they should just head into that direction.

“For me, Muda’s actions are populist and immature and does not reflect the spirit of unity and camaraderie.” – July 26, 2023
