PKR and DAP put you in power, Najib reminds Bersatu leaders

FORMER Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak mocked Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for criticising PKR and DAP, despite coming to power with the latter’s support.

“Do all of you notice this? Those who like to accuse Umno of trying to join forces with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP came into power with their support.

“Those crying ‘No DAP, no Anwar’ mostly won their seats by contesting under the PKR banner in the last general election,” he said, in a Facebook post.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin joined forces with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to create Bersatu, after the former was sacked by Najib as deputy prime minister and Umno deputy president.

Bersatu later teamed up with DAP and PKR to form Pakatan Harapan and dealt Barisan Nasional its first defeat since Independence.

However, a power struggle ensued between Mahathir and Anwar, leading to the former’s abrupt resignation in early last year.

Mahiaddin then pulled Bersatu out if the coalition and joined forces with Umno and PAS, to form Perikatan Nasional.

Najib then reminded his detractors in Bersatu that without PKR and DAP’s backing in the past, none of them would have tasted power like today.

“And this includes our prime minister and the senior minister, who is the ‘most senior of them all’ (Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali).

“Wish I could call them hypocrites but I have no heart to do it,” the Pekan MP remarked. – July 7, 2021.
