PKR man singles out Kedah MB Sanusi in PN’s Pelangai defeat

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) elections defeat in Pelangai was partially due to Kedah Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s role during the campaign, said PKR deputy head of information Razeef Rakimin. He stated that since the beginning of the campaign, the response of the people of the Pelangai state assembly was seen as not being happy with what he called “the arrogant and rude statement issued by the Kedah MB”.“In my view, PN will continue to have problems if it continues to use people like Sanusi as their icon. However, rejection was clearly seen after Sanusi issued a rude statement against the Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who delivered the Friday (Oct 6) sermon in New York, US,” said Razeef in a statement last night (Oct 7).“The statement was also seen as trying to fool the people of DUN Pelangai and in response, PN supporters themselves boycotted the coalition’s mega talk which was organised at Dataran Purnama five days ago and after that, the PN talk started to look bland.”Sanusi had chided Anwar saying the latter spoke in an empty United Nation (UN) assembly hall during his speech at the UN General Assembly. The Kedah MB also claimed that Anwar’s speech at a New York mosque was forced on the congregation during the Friday prayers, adding that otherwise, no one would have listened to the PM.

Furthermore, Sanusi has made Anwar his main target after the Aug 12 state elections, which he won in Kedah.

During the state polls, Sanusi’s targets were the Selangor MB whom he also attacked for his lacklustre performance in the richest state in Malaysia. He also targeted Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution in speeches. On the other hand, Razeef pointed out Sanusi’s action of using religious and racial issues to gain support is also clearly not liked by the people. – Oct 8, 2023
