WITH Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari winning the Gombak PKR division chief post, the latter received a congratulatory message from his ex-boss; Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali!
(Congratulations to Amirudin for his victory. May greater understanding continue to bring glad tidings)
Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that Amirudin has defeated his opponent Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak to become the new Gombak PKR division chief.
He won 1,858 votes compared to Farhash who only garnered 1,215.
Farshash is also an aide to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Gombak division was previously helmed by Azmin for the last three party elections.
Azmin was one of the founding members of PKR and held the party’s coveted deputy president post since November 2010.
Despite having great influence over PKR, his close ties with Anwar suffered a setback after Pakatan Harapan won the general election in 2018.
While then-prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had promised to relinquish the post to Anwar “within two years”, the former appeared to be grooming Azmin to become his successor.
In February 2020, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) left the Pakatan coalition and formed a new administration, with the backing of UMNO, PAS and 10 defectors from PKR led by Azmin.
While Amirudin was known to be a staunch Azmin loyalist, he did not defect and remained with PKR despite his boss leaving the party. – May 29, 2022
