PKR’s Ramanan says viral cash video is from 2023

PKR vice-president candidate and Sungai Buloh MP Datuk Seri R Ramanan, seeking re-election, clarified that a viral video showing him handing cash to an individual was misrepresented.

The recipient was his employee, and the incident occurred after the 2023 Selangor state election, he said.

“That’s my own employee — what’s wrong with that?” he said at a press conference after launching an entrepreneurship seminar organised by the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (Tekun).

“It’s really disgraceful if we stoop to dirty politics like this. This is slander. There’s a party election happening now, so things like this (the video) will be twisted and manipulated,” he said.

Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has campaigned for re-election for the post of deputy leader of PKR against money politics. He minced no words, saying that some in the party were paying people to vote for them to obtain party posts.

He also campaigned against Ramanan saying he is a newcomer to the party and that he brought the MIC culture to PKR.

On the other hand, Ramanan recently said Nurul Izzah Anwar was a better fit to be the party deputy leader and that she could bring the party to win 80 seats in the next general elections, to which Rafizi retorted by giving him a lesson on how many seats PKR can contest in reality.

Nevertheless, there are allegations from multiple sources claiming that certain individuals within PKR are using money to secure support.

Audio recordings and videos have been circulating online, including on platforms such as Edisi Siasat, suggesting the involvement of “dirty money” – in some instances allegedly provided by prominent businessmen – for use in the party’s internal elections. — May 17, 2025
