PM: Borders to reopen on April 1 under “transition to endemic phase”

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today that country borders will be reopened effective April 1.

In a special address today, he said this was in line with the Government’s plan to “transition to the endemic phase” and support economic rejuvenation, especially the tourism industry which had been hit hard by the pandemic.

Among the measures announced are as follows:

  • Eateries will be allowed to operate past midnight
  • Social distancing requirements for religious events scrapped
  • 50% capacity limit for event venues will be removed but social distancing rules still apply
  • Vaccination is no longer a requirement for inter-state travel or for determining maximum capacity at workplaces.

He added that with borders reopening, Malaysians can leave and enter the country as usual and are allowed to travel to any nation which has reopened its borders too.

“Foreigners with valid travel documents are also able to move in and out of the country without applying for MyTravelPass which have been repealed,” Ismail Sabri mention.

He said individuals only need to use the MySejahtera application and fill up the Pre-Departure Form via the Traveller function which is available in the application.

On related matter, the Bera MP said that when it came to places of worship, state government would have the say on social distancing rules when it comes to Islamic affairs.

“As for non-Muslim places of worship, the rules will be decided by the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR),” he remarked.

However, Malaysians are still required to wear a mask outside of their homes and use the MySejahtera application’s when checking into premises. – March 8, 2022.
