“PM getting sidelined in UMNO?”: Nga’s query gets mixed reaction from netizens

AS UMNO is holding its annual general assembly (AGM), Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming questioned on why Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was purportedly being sidelined by his party leadership.

Posting a picture taken by Bernama yesterday, Nga asked on why while those facing corruption charges are put on the centre (red carpet), the prime minister was standing at the most left.

(My friend in UMNO sent this picture to me. They were complaining that while those facing graft charges are on the red carpet, the prime minister was standing on the cement floor. Why treat him like that? Just asking.)

His cheeky questioned received mixed reaction by Twitteratis, with several of them urging the senior DAP leader to mind his own business.

(Instead of being a busybody on UMNO affairs, I suggest you and your party find a way to hoodwink the people on abolishing tolls come the 15th General Election.

User Muaziq Group added:

With that, netizen Mohd Noor Aliff Mohd Marzuki reminded Nga that it was a party meeting and Ismail Sabri was just another vice president in UMNO.

(This is a party event, not a Government one. The PM is a party vice president and it does not seem odd to me in terms of party hierarchy. In fact, even Mahdzir Khalid is on the cement floor. Perhaps someone could enlighten us on the party protocol?)

It is to note that unlike previous UMNO AGM’s where delegates were mostly praising the leadership, this time around it was different as several spokespersons spoke out against certain party leaders.

The most controversial speech came from UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan who supported calls by certain members to call for snap polls soon.

It appeared that Ismail Sabri was reluctant to call for a general election now, given the COVID-19 situation was still alarming and the promise given to Pakatan Harapan via the memorandum of understanding (MOU).

Show of strength by “court cluster”?

Former UMNO youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin even spoke out against UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in an interview with Astro Awani for not addressing the biggest challenge facing the country today in his speech at the AGM; the pandemic and economic downturn.

Back to Nga’s comment, several netizens, however, appeared to agree with the former’s assessment saying that it seemed that Ismail Sabri was being shrugged off by those facing court cases.

(The looters are being put on a pedestal by those misusing religion)

Netizen Dzulzainol replied with a cheeky remark:

(If the PM releases the “court cluster’, he will be standing outside the hall next) – March 19, 2022
