TRUE to the age-old adage that that TRUTH HURTS, brickbats have been hurled at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for telling Malays not to accuse their downfall or bemoan their fate by blaming other races.
Instead of sowing racial hatred, they should willingly accept that their loss of land or power stems from the weaknesses of some of their own leaders who failed to uphold their trust due to their corrupt and power abusing nature.
Expressing regret at the tendency some quarters who are quick at pointing fingers at other races by claiming that Malay rights have been eroded, PMX had apparently told the 27th PKR founding anniversary in Melaka on Saturday (Sept 27):
“We’re not taught to hate people in our religion. It’s the fault of the Malay leaders themselves that there’re poor Malays, seizure of Malay land, eroded Malay power or opportunities are stolen from the Malays.

“Look for Malay leaders who’re trustworthy, hardworking. Look for Chinese leaders who are clean, hardworking,
“(Instead) it’s the DAP’s fault when the economy is in disarray. It’s also DAP’s fault that a motorbike accident has happened. DAP gets blamed when a programme is late. These’re all excuses. Our religion doesn’t teach us to hate others”.
But detractors begged to differ as they hit out at the PKR president for making a sweeping statement that is “reflective of his own action”.
“What is this traitor of the nation trying to spin again?” fumed one commenter to a Facebook post by self-proclaimed documentary platform, AHPD, which had since amassed 7.7K likes, 4.2K comments and 295 shares at the time of writing.
“In the past, you’re the one who wanted to initiate reforms if you had power but when you obtained power, your promises had not only remained promises but even worse (than that).”

Others accused PMX as being the “real traitor” who had since 1998 instigated chaos by “throw a stone but hide the hand”.

One commenter who was seemingly concurring with PMX that “he was telling the truth” eventually chided the latter for “being in cohort with DAP to erode the wealth of Tanah Melayu”, hence “both the past and current leaders are 2×5 and 5×2 (slang to mean the same no matter how one looks at it)”.

Another sarcastically urged PMX to “just dissolve PKR so all PKR members can join DAP”.
“Straight to the point. Anwar is also fighting for the DAP mission. His statement after statement always protects the DAP race from being faulted,” berated the commenter.

As it seems that there is indeed a mountain to climb for PMX to satisfy his Madani allies and the opposition-slant electorate, one commenter offered the best conclusion – “very rarely indeed that a leader will fault himself”. – Sept 29, 2025
