PN MP mulls legal action against PM’s official photographer over vaping accusation

A PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) MP is considering legal action against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official photographer who had accused him of vaping inside the Dewan Rakyat recently.

In a photo shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Sadiq Asyraf, Tanah Merah MP Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz was spotted supposedly vaping as other opposition members stood up from their seats to leave the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Sept 19) evening.

In response to Sadiq’s post, Ikmal said a police report will be lodged against Sadiq by his officer at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD) this afternoon (Sept 22).

“We will (take legal action),” he confirmed to Sinar Harian when contacted, adding that a statement will be issued once the police report has been lodged.

Ikmal had previously denied that he had vaped in the Dewan Rakyat, and had explained that the cylindrical object was in fact a pen and not a vaping device as was previously claimed by Sadiq.

“Everybody knows I don’t smoke. I cannot even stand sitting next to a smoker, let alone smoking, and vaping is certainly out of the question,” he was reported as saying.

Ikmal was captured in a shot depicting the opposition’s walkout from the Dewan Rakyat after Putrajaya MP Datuk Radzi Jidin was booted out from the lower House for causing a ruckus.

In the photo, Ikmal was seen allegedly taking a puff from a vape device as Anwar, who is also the Tambun MP, stood in his spot to deliver his winding-up speech on the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review in the Parliament, which is a non-smoking area. – Sept 22, 2023
