Police receive 188 reports over alleged LGBT event in Petaling Jaya

AUTHORITIES have so far received 188 police reports concerning an alleged LGBT-related event reportedly organised by the youth wing of a political party in Petaling Jaya.

According to Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, complaints have been coming in from various quarters across the country since the issue gained traction online last week.

He added that the police plan to summon the event organisers soon to obtain their statements.

“To date, 188 reports have been filed concerning this incident. The organisers will be called in for questioning,” he said.

Earlier, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that an investigation was launched after a social media post surfaced about a programme allegedly scheduled for 21 June in Petaling Jaya.

The event has drawn public concern, with critics saying it could be offensive to local sensitivities and goes against national laws, which do not permit any form of LGBT activity.

The case is currently being handled by Bukit Aman’s Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. —June 3, 2025
