THE police will investigate the RM700 mil spent during the days of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) administration, said Wangsa Maju District Police Chief Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah.
He stated that the police received a report regarding the alleged misuse of RM700 mil in funds by the two previous governments for advertisements and publicity. The fund was to publicise the government’s agenda in the period 2020–2022.
“We will conduct an investigation including contacting the Finance Ministry to get an explanation,” HarapanDaily quoted him as saying.
Meanwhile, UMNO communications director Datuk Lokman Noor Adam claimed that his officers made a report regarding the matter at the Setapak Police Station at about 2pm on Saturday (Dec 30).
“The expenditure is huge… we (the people) want to know where the RM700 mil expenditure went, there are sources claiming that there was abuse of power involving the former prime minister’s staff before.
“We want the police to investigate this matter and to be followed by an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission,” he pointed out when contacted by Bernama.
Meanwhile, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the people have the right to know about the RM700 mil spent on advertising and publicity by the two previous governments.
In a post on X on Friday (Dec 29), he noted it was a significant expenditure.
