Political activist: “Please, please deport them home now that they are already in the pink of health”

SUCH is the plea to the Madani government by pro-DAP social media influencer Thaqib Shaker in a reaction to Wednesday’s (Oct 2) ruckus by some so-called Palestinian ‘medical tourists’ and their kin at their temporary accommodation in Wisma Transit Kuala Lumpur (WTKL).

“Those Palestinian refugees who went on a rampage (mengamuk) look seeming healthy … so what’s next? Just send them home as what you guys promised to the rakyat,” urged the media officer to Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid in a TikTok video.

“You brought them into Malaysia for medical treatment so now (that they’ve recovered), it’s time to send them home

“The rakyat must’s keep quiet on this matter for I’m afraid that the longer we allow them here (stay in Malaysia), they will spread false rumours or slander us by telling the world how badly we mistreated them thus potentially tarnishes Malaysia’s image. Therefore, please send them home with immediate effect.”

For the uninitiated, human rights activist and lawyer Siti Kasim who advocated the notion that charity starts at home has shared the necessary video clips as evidence.

Recall that Thaqib has been vocal all this while with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s so-called “humanitarian mission”.

In August, he has cautioned the Madani government against over-zealously opening its doors to grief-stricken Palestinians, drawing experience from how Malaysia’s good intention of housing Rohingya refugees since 2013 has backfired with a surge in illegal settlements and crime rate.

In view of pressure piled by Malaysians who believe that “charity should start at home”, the Madani government has assured that its exercise of flying in 127 Palestinian citizens, including 41 injured as a result of Israeli attacks at the Gaza Strip to seek medical treatment in the country, is a one-off affair.

The assurance was given by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin who said there would be no second mission to bring more Palestinians to Malaysia.

Ironically, the posting by Thaqib coupled with the rampage incident at their  posh WTKL dwelling has opened the eyes of many boycotters with many now contemplating to “quench their thirst at Starbucks again” or “end their McDonalds/Pizza Hut/KFC cravings”. – Oct 4, 2024
