LOCAL landlords will always have their fair share of horror stories regarding tenants who have seemingly crawled out from hell. Or at least from a place where hygiene and cleanliness are grossly compromised.
This was the issue facing Balminder Bhatia (@balmin93) who shared his nightmare scenario on Threads.
He claimed that a family of four had turned his duplex unit in Pandan Indah into a veritable mess with nary any space to walk with mountain-high piles of accumulated junk and rubbish decorating the premises.
Appending images and videos as proof of the unit in complete disarray, the miffed landlord claimed he had rented out to the family who “seemed very nice at first” in February this year.

Taking into consideration that this family was going through tough times, the landlord claimed that he did not insist on a deposit yet rental payment was slow and arduous till it completely stopped for three months while the utility bills kept shooting up.
Sharing further details of his ordeal, the irate property owner finally demanded they move out but not before witnessing first-hand how the tenants lived.
He gave them the ultimatum to leave within a week but that only led to more drama as the tenants from hell then threatened to engulf the unit in petrol and burn it!

Long story short, the patriarch of the tenant family has since been arrested for being a drug addict while drug paraphernalia was apparently found in the apartment. No payment of arrears or even a clean-up of the mess they left behind was offered by the tenants.

But this wasn’t the end of the landlord’s nightmare as the big clean-up had to be seen to. This was when he (and the cleaners) got a shock of their lives. Apparently, the tenants had been relieving themselves in pails and left the waste to fester.
Claiming that even the cleaners waved the white flag, the disgusted landlord simply proclaimed, “this is not a human way of living.”

In a latest update, the landlord claimed that the cleaners finally cleared the mess and packed away the tenant’s belongings. The tenants apparently came back to claim what was theirs but not before making a mess again.
The landlord declared he really wished he could post the faces and identity cards of the alleged wrongdoers to avoid other landlords from having to deal with this not-toilet-trained family.

There were pleas from fellow landlords to share the identity of these rascal tenants but the landlord declined stating he wanted to avoid accusations of defamation. “Waste of time and money” was his disgruntled verdict.

Elsewhere, one commenter proposed the setting up of “a directory of backlisted tenant for future reference while another recounted a clause in her tenancy agreement when she resided in UK that landlords can inspect their properties at intervals during the rental period”.

At the end of the day, one commenter was at pains to stress the apparent Zen-like calm that this landlord dealt with this nightmare scenario.
It was noted that this more-than-patient property owner had refrained from cursing them despite the tenant’s allegedly unacceptable conduct.

On top of that, they were allowed to claim their belongings which had been neatly packed for them.
But most pertinently, the landlord did NOT succumb to the temptation to viral these tenants from hell faces nor did he try to turn this into a race row with stereotypical observations that have become commonplace in today’s social media landscape.
“Please share your routine on how to become this Zen” was the plea from very impressed netizen.
Perhaps this landlord can have a new side venture in teaching meditation and mind-calming techniques. He could very well use his social media posts as proof of his ultra-cool and calm demeanour when faced with the ultimate tenants from hell. – Sept 12, 2026
