Pos Malaysia CEO comment sparks backlash

POS Malaysia, Malaysia’s national courier since the early 1800s, is facing public backlash after netizens discovered its CEO, Charles Brewer, is a foreigner.

The appointment of a Westerner to lead a national company has sparked discontent among Malaysians. Additionally, an alleged comment attributed to Brewer has further fuelled public anger, intensifying criticism online.

He was appointed as the group’s CEO in 2021. Allegedly, X users claim he responded to a fellow employee who requested a new uniform after theirs had ripped.

The alleged response from the CEO was that the employee should feel lucky that he is not employed by a foreign carrier that does not provide uniforms at all.

Some users responded to the CEO, saying “shame on you” for the response and for not attending to the needs of the workforce.

A delivery rider shared on social media that a customer had complained about his worn-out uniform, posting a photo of his tattered jacket and asking the platform if he could get a replacement.

He didn’t anticipate the overwhelming reaction his post would spark, especially not the direct response from the company’s CEO.

Nevertheless, another user went on a rant against the CEO, saying he earns a six-figure monthly salary, and if the excuse to appoint a foreigner as CEO is that there are no qualified Bumiputera for the job, there is a talent pool of Chinese and Indian candidates ready to lead.

Others questioned why a prominent company is unable to provide clean and comfortable uniforms for its employees, who are considered the backbone of the organisation. – April 19, 2025
