ALTHOUGH the Lunar New Year officially ended on Saturday (Feb 24) with the ushering in of the ‘Chap Goh Meh’ (the 15th night), the celebrative mood may drag on a little longer.
The cacophony of cymbals and thudding drums that provide the soundtrack to lion dance performances will still be heard for the next couple of weeks, at least. Many businesses will be inviting these lion dance troupes to “bless” the premises with good fortune for the new year.
A post on the Getaran news portal Facebook page highlights the incredible discipline required to be part of a lion dance troupe, with an accompanying video showing two young practitioners of the art displaying great dexterity and skill.
The short video clip which has since received 2.9 million views and 55,000 likes at the of writing has in fact elicited 3,900 comments which are almost all positive.
Quite a few said it was suspenseful watching the two young lads work their routine.
The spirit of 1Malaysia was very apparent in many of the comments.
What is heartening to see is so many Malaysians from different backgrounds celebrating the cultural richness of the country and its melting pot populace.
