POTUS has come and gone in style: How deep an impact is Malaysia’s 24-hour of fame?

WITHIN a span of 24 hours, host nation Malaysia is left with the memory of having hosted two modern day US presidents since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966 – the 44th in Barack Obama (April 2014) and just hours ago, bid farewell to the 47th and reigning president of the United States (POTUS) Donald Trump.

Whether one is his admirer or detractor, Trump has left a colourful impact in Malaysia within moments after his touch down at the Kompleks Bunga Raya @ KLIA when he danced to Malaysian traditional beat—swaying with clenched fists—to the rhythmic beat of the kompang.

Marvelously, this 20-second of dance move with Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tangoing along has put Malaysia on the world map with her name playing on the lips playing on the lips of millions of world inhabitants.

As his walked to board Air Force One en route to Japan at 9.30am this morning (Oct 27) where Japan’s first woman PM Sanae Takaichi is banking on building a friendly personal relationship with the US to ease trade tensions, Malaysia must have left a profound memory in the POTUS for him to inscribe:

“Just leaving Malaysia, a great and very vibrant country. Signed major trade and rare earth deals, and yesterday (Oct 26), most importantly, signed the peace treaty between Thailand and Cambodia. NO WAR! Millions of lives saved. Such an honour to have gotten this done. Now, off to Japan!!!”

In fact, PMX has also gone down into history as the only world leader ‘invited’ to board the POTUS’ official state limousine – the Cadillac One a.k.a. The Beast.

Truth be told, PMX revealed during the signing of the historic Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord  how Trump had broken security protocols by unexpectedly invited him to ride in “The Beast” – a memorable gesture in that many exchanges directed at global peace went on between the duo “without the knowledge of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio”.

As per a Malay Mail report, two units of the presidential limo were flown onboard a US Air Force C-17 Globemaster III ahead of the visit. One served as a decoy while the other ferried Trump with PMX by his side from Sepang to KLCC which is the official venue of the three-day 47th ASEAN Summit under Malaysia’s chairmanship.

Built by General Motors for the US Secret Service, The Beast entered service in 2018 and remains among the most heavily protected vehicles in operation. Although styled after a Cadillac CT6, it is based on a modified Chevrolet Kodiak truck chassis to support its significant weight and armour. – Oct 27, 2025
