“Prasarana, KTMB to provide weekly maintenance reports,” says Transport Minister

DESPITE only two weeks in the Transport Ministry, newly-minted Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook is already in the midst of requesting Prasana Malaysia Bhd and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to provide weekly audits on the maintenance status of their facilities.

“The audit reports would include, among other things, the status of operations and the number of passengers – including those using the My50 travel pass,” Malaysiakini reported Loke as saying.

Loke pointed out that he is aware that Prasarana has its own audit and committee to observe the facilities.

“So, when I meet with Prasarana, I will be given these reports, meaning I know what has been reported by the media – how many lifts and escalators have broken down. All this information is available,” said the DAP leader.

Loke went on to say that he had asked Prasarana and KTMB to attend post-cabinet meetings conducted by the Transport Ministry, as they had not been invited in the previous two years.

Instil ‘maintenance culture’

Not too long ago, an escalator at the Dang Wangi LRT station was reported to have been repaired after years of not operating.

Moreover, Loke lauded the repairs and opined that a “maintenance culture” must be fostered to prevent facilities from being fixed only when a minister or the media bring it to their attention.

Furthermore, this has garnered instant praise among the netizens on Loke being dedicated to his work.

“We have to cultivate it as part of our jobs. We have to ensure that the maintenance of public transport facilities must be done all the time, not only when a party highlights the issue,” Loke further commented. – Dec 15, 2022
