KLANG MP Charles Santiago has issued a challenge to PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari to organise a protest against corruption.
This is in response to the Pasir Mas MP’s warning yesterday (Aug 25) of nationwide protests unless scheduled concerts featuring international artistes were cancelled.
In a Facebook post, the Youth chief had called on the Government to cancel such events as he claimed they encourage hedonism and were incompatible with the norms and values of Muslim life in Malaysia.
“I have a better idea. My idea would be that PAS should organise a huge protest around the country protesting against corruption with the most recent one involving the littoral combat ship (LCS) project,” Santiago said in a brief video that is making its rounds on Twitter.
PAS is threatening to protest if the government continues to hold concerts by international artists.

“I call upon PAS Youth to do a nationwide protest and I assure you that I will join the protest. I dare you to take up my challenge … Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, I wait for your response.”
The LCS project for the navy has come under scrutiny for its cost and delay in delivery after Putrajaya had spent RM6.08 bil but none of the six ships have been completed or delivered, according to Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Fadhli had made a similar call last Friday when he warned against continuously organising concerts and called on Muslims to oppose such events, which he said would only invite the “wrath of Allah”.
His posting on Facebook was made in the wake of a concert held by American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish the night before.
The Islamic party had previously condemned concerts held in the country by various international performers.
In 2016, it had called for a Selena Gomez concert to be banned, alleging it promoted “Western culture and hedonism”. – Aug 26, 2022
